It appears that the exponential increase in available information greatly amplifies the opportunities for human development. Building upon this premise, one can analyze the advantages that Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) could entail for those undergoing higher education processes in the field of Communication. The benefits of mastering competencies linked to digital culture are acknowledged, where PLEs and new literacies contribute to enhancing the avenues through which an individual can navigate in their university education to acquire disciplinary and research skills. The study is framed within comprehensive doctoral research with a phenomenological approach. It began with the natural attitude of the subjects to understand the ways in which the educational phenomenon appears to them; the first two reductions of the method allude to the ideas and lifeworld of the subjects, later in the constitutive phase, recognizing the intersubjectivity displayed among the participants. The findings suggest it is important to acknowledge the diversity of learning modalities in classrooms, and that collaboration would strengthen the type of PLE. It is concluded that processes of self-regulation and student autonomy should be encouraged.
