Abstract

The chapter makes a distinction between three modalities of organizational communication that represent systemic efforts. The text refers to “systemic” when the organization communicates as a complete whole. It starts from the fact that the terms institutional, corporate and strategic communication are frequently used as synonyms when in reality they are different. Institutional Communication (IC) is the legal aspect of the organizational system and its function is to communicate the organization’s Good Citizenship practices by respecting the Rule of Law, fostering a culture of legality in all its interactions and thirdly, fostering a culture of civility and exemplary conduct both inside and outside the organization. One finding was finding little information in the reference literature about the analysis or practice of institutional communication in the three aspects mentioned above.
