Debut fiction filmmakers and their incorporation tactics into the Transnational Cinematographic Field from Guadalajara, Mexico (2011-2020)

Abstract

Guadalajara has been a favorable setting for film production since the arrival of cinema in Mexico. This article analyzes how first-time filmmakers, starting in 2011, have sought to integrate into the transnational cinematic field. Using Bourdieu’s field theory and de Certeau’s concept of tactics, the study examines their structural and subjective conditions. Through documentary review and semi-structured interviews, an emerging contribution to the field was identified, stemming from a local cinema in the making that faces structural inequalities in relation to the country's center—conditions that hinder the strategic incorporation of debut filmmakers from the interior.
